Rittal’s Industrial Protection for Office Monitors

Rittal’s Industrial Protection for Office Monitors
Rittal GmbH & Co. KG (Germany) - Rittal’s new housings provide outstanding protection for commercially available TFT screens, allowing them to be used in harsh industrial environments.

Increasingly, plant engineering companies are using conventional office TFT screens in their operation solutions for plant and machinery. In harsh industrial environments that may be dusty or humid, these screens need housings with a high protection category to keep them working reliably. Rittal housings for desktop TFT screens offer outstanding protection and an attractive design.

The relatively high cost of industrial TFT screens means they are not always the first-choice solution at the human-machine interface. Plant and machinery manufacturers often opt for commercially available TFT screens. However, to ensure smooth, error-free operation, TFT screens designed for office use require particularly robust housings. Rittal’s latest housings have a protection category of IP 65, and effectively shield devices from exposure to dust and water jets.

Rittal’s stylish housings are designed to accommodate TFT screens up to 24" (measured along the diagonal) in the popular 16:9 and 16:10 widescreen formats. A full-width viewing window made from a single-pane of safety glass maximises the display area. A combination of rounded edges and aluminium grips prevents injury and gives the side facing the operator an attractive look and feel.

Housings containing TFT screens can be mounted quickly and efficiently thanks to a holder with the VESA 75/100 mounting hole pattern. A hinged door on the back of the housing provides easy access to the device. The housing measures 650 x 450 x155 mm, and is made from sheet steel.

To provide additional ways of connecting to a machine according to the needs of the application, the housing can easily be mounted to a support arm system from Rittal’s CP 60/120/180 range. With eccentrically mounted support arms, the housing can be placed in various positions such as in niches. For the fitter’s convenience, there are pre-punched holes in the reinforcing plate. The fitter can use these holes by simply drilling them out.

The housing is fixed to the support arm using a single-bolt locking mechanism, so it can be mounted by one person. This also applies when mounting on Rittal pedestals, which are now available in the new support-arm design. Mobile versions of pedestals are equipped with castors and an open cable duct inside the support section, so cables with fully assembled plugs can be routed quickly and efficiently. This is a major advantage, especially during maintenance and repairs.
