Mitsubishi Electric Automation (United States) - Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has announced that it has once again been distinguished by CDP, an international non-profit organization, with the highest "A List" rating in the categories of Climate Change and Water Security. This recognition reflects the company's ongoing commitment to sustainability and transparency in environmental information disclosure.
Since 2016, Mitsubishi Electric has received this distinction seven times in both categories, maintaining the top rating for the past two consecutive years.
Commitment to Sustainability
Sustainability is a key pillar of the company’s management philosophy, aligned with its Environmental Vision 2050. Mitsubishi Electric has set ambitious goals to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions at its factories and offices by March 2031 and across its entire value chain by March 2051.
In 2024, the company established the Environmental Plan 2025, which includes simplified methods for calculating LC-CO₂ emissions, promoting carbon neutrality and the circular economy, as well as targets aligned with Japan’s "30by30" initiative for biodiversity conservation.
Climate Change Initiatives
Mitsubishi Electric has updated its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets through 2030, in compliance with the Paris Agreement, with certification from the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi).
Key initiatives include:
- Reducing CO₂ emissions throughout the entire value chain, from development and production to distribution and disposal, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2051.
- Promoting renewable energy, with more advanced energy storage systems, grid stabilization, and high-capacity, high-efficiency power transmission for increased renewable energy adoption.
- Expanding the use of heat pump water heating systems ("Air to Water"), which are more energy-efficient than traditional fossil fuel-based boilers.
- Reducing production emissions by introducing high-efficiency and IoT-enabled equipment, increasing the use of renewable energy, and developing more energy-efficient models.
Commitment to Water Security
The Environmental Plan 2025 also includes specific goals to reduce water consumption at high-risk sites by March 2026.
To achieve this, the company has adopted:
- Water risk assessment tools, such as the Aqueduct Water Risk Atlas, to monitor current and future risks at business sites worldwide.
- Strict water usage and discharge management at domestic and international manufacturing facilities, promoting measures for reduction, reuse, and conservation.
- Development of water purification technologies, utilizing ozone and other innovative methods, for use in treatment plants, factories, and public infrastructure.
Mitsubishi Electric reaffirms its commitment to a sustainable global environment, implementing innovative solutions and promoting eco-friendly practices across all operations and its value chain.
