Rittal’s Rapid assembly and reliable contacts Busbar System
Rittal GmbH & Co. KG (Germany) - Rittal has set the benchmark for safety and ease of assembly with its new 185 mm busbar system for use with low-voltage switchgear. The new circuit breaker adapter enables compact circuit breakers up to 1,600 A to be assembled without the need for drilling. Thanks to cutting edge contact technology in a fully insulated busbar system, all devices can be assembled without first removing the protective cover. This new development also includes the latest NH fused-switch disconnectors.

When building low-voltage switchgear, the safety of operators is of paramount importance. At the same time, the ability to work on systems during operation, while electrical components are live, is increasing in demand. As a result, in developing the new 185 mm busbar system, Rittal placed particular emphasis on ensuring a high level of contact hazard protection. When fully assembled, the busbar system is completely covered for full contact hazard protection. If necessary, individual components can be fitted without disconnecting the power supply, and without affecting the busbar system’s contact hazard protection.

Rittal has also developed brand new fully insulated connection technology that enables a connection to be established to the busbar through the existing cover. The covers feature narrow slits through which the connection is achieved using the appropriate contact piece. Because the slits are no more than 4 mm wide, they comply with the IP 2X rating for contact hazard protection.

The basic version of the 185 mm busbar system includes new NH fused-switch disconnectors as circuit breakers. In comparison with conventional solutions, NH fused-switch disconnectors boast specialist air-flow for efficient cooling of fuse links. A second, separate channel ensures that any electric arcs generated when switches are live are earthed safely.

Rittal also offers new circuit breaker adapters - compatible with all leading models of compact circuit breakers from a variety of manufacturers. Previously, circuit breaker adapters were only available up to 630 A. But now, for the first time, circuit breakers up to 1600 A can be integrated into the switchgear.

The new 185 mm busbar system is an integrated solution in Rittal's Ri4Power modular system. It is ideal for compact power distribution systems in industrial applications and in large buildings. All components are compatible with each other, from the enclosure to power distribution componentry, to climate control systems.

As is the case with all solutions incorporating the Ri4Power system, compliance with the new IEC 61439 standard is a given.
