Expo 2025 Osaka: Kubota Showcases Robots for Sustainable Agriculture

KUBOTA Corporation (Japan) - Kubota Corporation (Head Office: Naniwa-ku, Osaka, Japan; President and Representative Director: Yuichi Kitao) announced that it will exhibit the concept models of its versatile platform robots, the Type: V and Type: S, at the Future City pavilion during Expo 2025 in Osaka. The Type: V model will make its world debut at the event. Kubota is a platinum partner of this pavilion, which will focus on the theme "Planetary Conscious Agriculture," aligning with the vision of promoting sustainable, automated agricultural practices with reduced environmental impact.

Planetary Conscious Agriculture

The concept of "planetary conscious agriculture" refers to the creation of a prosperous society that also maintains the sustainability of the global environment within the Earth's planetary boundaries. Kubota, which is responsible for the Food and Agriculture sector at the Future City pavilion, will demonstrate how agriculture can evolve into a more sustainable model supported by automated and data-driven technologies. The goal is to establish low-environmental-impact farming methods, such as fully automated, data-driven precision agriculture.

The company believes that the key to a sustainable agricultural future lies in adopting versatile platform robots, like the Type: V and Type: S, which will be showcased as essential technologies to achieve this vision.

Features of the Versatile Platform Robots

The versatile platform robots are designed to perform a wide range of tasks required in agriculture and other sectors, operating fully autonomously with no human intervention. By utilizing various implements and equipment, these robots are capable of precision farming driven by data, handling many manual tasks, and even performing civil engineering and construction work, all autonomously. These next-generation robots aim to safeguard the future of our food supply in response to the increasing shortage of agricultural workers.

The Type: V and Type: S models operate in coordination, allowing for the efficient execution of tasks across different agricultural fields.

Features of the Type: V Model

The Type: V is a fully autonomous platform robot that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of agricultural machinery. The vehicle’s body height and width can be adjusted to match the spacing between crops, their growth conditions, and the specific task. Additionally, a single unit can be used for a wide variety of applications, as it automatically replaces implements to best suit the operation at hand.

For example, in rice farming, the Type: V can perform tasks such as tilling, intermediate management, pest control, and harvesting, which are typically handled by separate machines like tractors and combines. The Type: V can also be used for vegetable farming and other crops, as well as non-agricultural tasks.

Features of the Type: S Model

The Type: S is a versatile robot with four flexible legs that allow it to maintain a level position even on sloped and rugged terrain, such as in orchards. This enables efficient cargo transportation and highly precise management tasks. The Type: S also has vast potential, with the ability to install a wide variety of attachments for different specific tasks.

The KATR, which serves as the foundation for the Type: S, was presented at CES® 2025, the world's largest technology trade show, and won the "Best of Innovation" award in the Industrial Equipment and Machinery category at the CES Innovation Awards® 2025.

Kubota’s Vision for the Future: Technology for Sustainable Agriculture

Kubota first presented its "future tractors" concept at the 1970 Japan World Expo in Osaka. Since then, the company has developed various innovative technologies that have become standard in modern tractors. With the Type: V and Type: S, Kubota aims to expand this innovation into the future of agriculture.

During Expo 2025, videos and games will be streamed on large screens, showing how the Type: V and Type: S models play active roles in a planetary-conscious agricultural future. A live demonstration of the Type: V model is also planned for press members at the Kubota Global Institute of Technology (Sakai City, Osaka, Japan).

Kubota believes that by using these robots, it will be possible to transform agriculture, making it more efficient and sustainable, and ensuring food security for future generations.
